Simplicity & Good Habits

Simplicity & Good Habits

Feeling the positive effects of the monthly chemical shift back upward.

Hallelujah.

I’ve learned to just go with it. Once or twice a month, my body makes me fight harder for joy. On those days, I let myself chill, unapologetically. I might leave the laundry or forego homeschooling, even cancel an appointment to watch a movie, read a book, or rest. I make minor adjustments in my diet to keep symptoms mild, but it is what it is. And on days when I feel the chemical ship right itself again, I take advantage. Not looking the gift horse in the mouth, I just roll with the energy I have, and find myself accomplishing again.

Goal setting has always been a favorite pastime for me. And anymore, whether it be for the year, the week, the day, or the next 15 minutes, setting goals always seems to take me back to the same two fundamentals:

Simplicity and good habits.

Today, my goals are oh so simple: to find and cultivate beauty and gratitude in the mundane.

Today, it looks like this:

So much laundry because so many souls to connect with.  But also…there could be less laundry.

So many dishes because so many hearts to love and be loved by.  But also…there could be fewer dishes.

So many messes because so much stuff that each precious life has accumulated.  But also…there could be less stuff.

Joy and freedom practically require it.

And those giant projects, tackled in small, underwhelming groups of minutes over the course of literally however long it takes, are suddenly behind me. And always bring peace.

So, today, I face the laundry, the kitchen, the house, the stuff with gratitude…and a ruthless glint in my eye.  For each will be accomplished but not everything will remain when I’m finished.

Such will be my worship.
