Our ADVENTures: The Planning Stage: Part 3
November 15, 2021
By Jen Stanbro
STEP 1: You’ve figured out how many days you’ll do ADVENTure activities.
STEP 2: You’ve decided what your morning routine will look like with the ‘daily regulars.’
STEP 3: You’ve created a Master List of special activities.
STEP 4: You’ve designated each activity to a day.
STEP 5: It’s time to make your shopping list. This might be the step that gives me anxiety. Boo!! I have to look at each activity and read/think through what materials/ingredients are needed, what I have in the house already, and then make a list of what I’ll need and where to get it from. It’s not THAT complicated by my mind gets worked up over it anyway. If you’re anything like me, I cannot overstate this: small, chewable pieces take the edge off and make this step easily doable. DO NOT aspire to knock this out in one sitting, unless you are reading this thinking, “what’s the big deal? I got this!” in which case, by all means! Get it! But I will be setting my timer for 10-15 minutes today, aspiring to get a supply list going for maybe the first handful of activities and then putting. it. down.
I’ll sit down again tomorrow and do that again.
And it won’t take too many days because momentum is a thing, and once you get going, you’d be surprised how much you can accomplish in those 10-15 minutes. This step typically takes me two days. For realz, why do I get so worked up?

As you can see above, there are only a few things I need to purchase for this entire three-week endeavor. I already have most of what we need! Woohoo!! Here’s to keeping it simple!
At this point, we’re in the home stretch of planning! I’ll put ‘ADVENTures shopping’ on my To Do list. The beauty of planning this early is that there’s plenty of time to go out and get what we need. And then there’s the final step in this stage of planning:
STEP 6: Prep for Daily Regulars. I’ll wrap our books and hide those somewhere in my room. And I’ll edit my Advent Cards. I created these to fit behind the doors of our Advent Calendar. Each card will display the special activity for the given day.
